Apply as a Mentor
Share Your Experience. Shape a Leader.
At KFD, we believe mentorship isn’t just about giving advice—it’s about unlocking potential. We invite researchers, clinicians, entrepreneurs, educators, advocates, and T1D-experienced adults to serve as mentors to our Youth Fellows and Ambassadors.
Whether you’ve published papers, raised a child with T1D, run a startup, or simply navigated systems with empathy and resilience—your journey can help guide the next generation of changemakers.
🧠Who Can Apply?
We welcome mentors from all walks of life. Our mentors include:
- Scientists and engineers
- Medical professionals and public health leaders
- Artists and storytellers with lived experience
- Entrepreneurs and nonprofit founders
- Teachers, counselors, and caregivers
No prior mentorship experience required—just commitment, compassion, and curiosity.
🤝 What Mentors Do
Mentors typically:
- Support one youth (or a small cohort) over 3–6 months
- Meet monthly (virtually or in person)
- Help shape a youth-led project or idea
- Provide feedback, encouragement, and networking guidance
- Model professionalism and purpose-driven leadership
KFD provides onboarding, mentor community support, and flexibility to meet your availability.
đź’ˇ Why It Matters
- Youth in our programs report feeling more confident, connected, and prepared for leadership after mentorship.
- Mentors say the experience reinvigorates their purpose and expands their worldview.
- Together, we build bridges across generations—and across systems.
