Why We Exist
We didn’t start with a boardroom—we started with a hospital room, a classroom, a kitchen table. We founded the Kopp Foundation for Diabetes to fight more than just a disease. We fight invisibility. Injustice. The feeling of being left behind.
This is not a charity. It’s a call to action. We exist to shift power, amplify youth, and demand equity for those too often ignored. Every child with Type 1 Diabetes deserves not just survival, but joy. Not just access, but opportunity. Not just awareness, but action.
We are not just building programs. We are building a movement—fueled by lived experience, driven by young leaders, and grounded in a fierce commitment to justice.
💡 Our Core Beliefs
1. Youth are not the future—they are the now.
They don’t need saving. They need space. We trust them to lead, create, and challenge systems in real time.
2. Access is equity—and anything less is injustice.
If only some get care, then we’ve failed. We fight for systemic change, not handouts.
3. Story is survival—and a roadmap.
Data without story is sterile. Story without power is lost. We use personal experience as a blueprint for innovation.
4. Innovation must be rooted in justice.
We don’t chase hype. We co-create solutions with the people most affected, and we measure success by impact, not press.
5. Diabetes is not neutral.
Who gets care, who gets heard, who gets help—it’s all shaped by structures of race, wealth, and policy. We face that head-on.
