Our Mission
Transforming the Future of Type 1 Diabetes Through Youth, Equity, and Innovation
At the Kopp Foundation for Diabetes, we believe that those most affected by Type 1 Diabetes (T1D)—young people—should be the ones shaping its future. Our mission is to empower youth-led innovation, expand access to lifesaving care, and accelerate equitable solutions to T1D across the globe.
We are not a traditional health nonprofit. We are a new model: a fusion of science, advocacy, and entrepreneurship—powered by lived experience and fueled by purpose.
Our Core Pillars
Youth Empowerment
We train and support young leaders—students, researchers, and creators—who live with or are affected by T1D. Through our Ambassador Program, Leadership Academy, and Innovation Fellowships, we equip the next generation to build what they wish they had.
Access & Equity
We work to close gaps in care by delivering insulin, CGMs, education, and emergency support to communities historically excluded from the diabetes conversation—especially BIPOC youth, low-income families, and those in rural or global underserved regions.
Innovation
We invest in high-impact, youth-driven projects—from mobile health tools to regenerative therapies. Our research priorities focus on non-invasive monitoring, data science, and collaborative clinical trials that break silos and fast-track solutions.
Global Reach, Local Roots
What starts in Philadelphia doesn’t end there. We are piloting scalable models—mobile care, school partnerships, and youth-led campaigns—that can be adapted and replicated around the world.
Why It Matters
Millions of children and teens live with T1D—but are rarely given a seat at the table. At KFD, we hand them the mic, fund their ideas, and stand beside them in the fight for survival, dignity, and cure.
“We are not just managing diabetes. We are rewriting what’s possible.”
Join us. Give. Mentor. Share. Because youth aren’t just the future of diabetes care—they’re the present.
